Avtech instruments with a rear-panel Ethernet port are configured to use the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to obtain their IPv4 network address. A IPv4 DHCP server must be present on the local network in order for the Ethernet interface to operate properly in the factory-shipped state.
If a static IP is required, two approaches can be used.
One approach is to reserve an IP address in the DHCP server. You would need to speak to your system administrator about this.
The second approach is to log into the Avtech instrument as root, using the serial port, and modify the networking setup manually. Here is a detailed procedure, using 192.168.0.15/24 as the desired address (the "/24" portion is equivalent to the usual 255.255.255.0 netmask), and 192.168.0.128 as the desired gateway:
avtech login: root Password: [get the root password from the calibration checksheet at the back of the operating manual] [root@avtech ~]# mount -o remount,rw / [root@avtech ~]# nmcli con edit "Wired connection 1" ===| nmcli interactive connection editor |=== Editing existing '802-3-ethernet' connection: 'Wired connection 1' Type 'help' or '?' for available commands. Type 'describe [. ]' for detailed property description. You may edit the following settings: connection, 802-3-ethernet (ethernet), 802-1x, ipv4, ipv6 nmcli> nmcli> set ipv4.method manual nmcli> nmcli> set ipv4.addresses 192.168.0.15/24 192.168.0.128 nmcli> nmcli> save persistent
At this point, wait 10 seconds, then power cycle the instrument. The instrument should use the static IP address after the power cycling.
